Stairs & Balustrades

Made to measure in Diep River. Fitted across the Western Cape.

Made for the house it stands in.

Spiral stairs, floating stairs and straight flights, the steel stringers that carry them and the balustrades that guard them. Every one is measured on site, drawn with you and made by hand in our Diep River workshop.

Stairs

Spiral, floating or straight, turning at a landing or running up a wall. Timber or steel treads on a frame drawn for the space.

Spiral or floating.

A spiral fits a whole stair into a corner. A floating stair on one steel spine keeps the room open beneath it.

Illustration: oak treads cantilevered from a white wall

Up a wall, or round a landing.

Treads cantilevered from a wall leave nothing underneath. A flight that turns at a landing carries a stair through a double volume. Tell us about the space and we will help you choose.

Planning a stair?

Send photographs, a drawing or rough measurements, and we will come back with a design and a quote.

Balustrades

For stairs, landings, balconies and voids. Forged and twisted in the old way, or clean flat bar for a modern house.

Forged by hand.

A twist in a bar, a scroll at the end of a rail, hammer marks you can feel. The parts you touch every day, made one at a time.

Or clean and modern.

Slim flat bars between a flat top rail and a bottom rail, fixed to square posts. Quiet enough to let the view be the view.

Inside and out.

On a sweeping stair, across a landing or around a balcony, each balustrade is measured on site and made to fit.

Need a balustrade?

For a stair, a landing or a balcony. Photographs of the space are enough to start.

Stringers

The steel a stair stands on. A single spine, a zigzag or two plate stringers, cut, folded and welded to carry timber or steel treads.

Illustration: oak treads on a folded steel stringer

Folded, welded, bolted.

Plate steel folded to the rise and run of your stair, with welded plates to carry the treads.

Illustration: oak treads on a single zigzag steel stringer

One spine, or two.

A single zigzag stringer under the middle of the treads, or a pair of plate stringers along the sides. Both are made to the measurements of your stair.

Building a stair on steel?

Tell us the rise, the run and the treads you have in mind, and we will quote the steel.
